We will explore some studio lighting setups that you should find interesting, including some special effects.

Project 3, Open, proposed

Propose a more in depth project. You will have about four weeks to complete it. It should be ambitious and exciting to sustain your interest for many weeks.

Due Dates, Week 4

Week 1 Warm up shoot. Negatives and Contact sheets—midterm
Week 2 Film speed test, expose for shadows.  Negatives and Contact sheets—midterm
Week 3 Contrast exercise. One print for each contrast grade—due 1/31
Week 4 Depth of Field exercise. Negatives and Contact sheets, one print for each focus depth — due 2/2
Week 5 Preliminary critique, project 1, at least 4 contact sheets, 5 work prints, 2/7
Week 6 Project 1, 2/14, final critique, 6-8 final prints for project 1, total 8 contact sheets for whole project.

Depth of Field


Deep depth of field. Achieve with small aperture and/or wider angle lens.
Shallow depth of field. Achieve with wide aperture and/or longer (telephoto) lens.
